Draft a script with AI
Generate a first draft, write over it in proper format, and keep every version.
- Where
- Script Editor
- Cost
- 1 credit per AI draft or rewrite
The Script Editor formats as you type, so you can think about the story rather than margins. AI can give you a draft to react to, but the best scripts come from rewriting that draft in your own words.
Get a first draft
- Check the Project pill shows your film's project.
- Open the AI menu in the header → Generate a draft….
- Describe the story, pick the Format, a Length (30 seconds to 5 minutes) and a Tone, then generate. Any previous draft is kept as a version.
Write in screenplay format
You never press a formatting button. Enter moves to the next element (after a character name comes dialogue, after dialogue comes the next character), Tab and Shift+Tab cycle the element type, and Shift+Enter adds a line break inside one.
| Shortcut | Element |
|---|---|
| ⌘⌥1 | Scene heading |
| ⌘⌥2 | Action |
| ⌘⌥3 | Character |
| ⌘⌥4 | Parenthetical |
| ⌘⌥5 | Dialogue |
| ⌘⌥6 | Transition |
(⌘ is Ctrl on Windows.) ⌘K opens the command palette for everything else.
Let AI help with a passage, not the whole script
Select some text and open the Assist menu: Continue from cursor, Expand selection, Tighten selection, Punch up dialogue, Rewrite selection… or Notes on selection. Each opens a review dialog where you choose Insert, Replace selection or Discard, so nothing changes without you.
⌘⌥G continues the scene as grey ghost text; press Tab to accept it.
Save versions as you go
Click Versions in the header → Save current as a version before a big rewrite. To go back, click a version, preview it and Restore this version.
Already have a script?
File → Import a script file… reads Final Draft (.fdx), Fountain, PDF, Word, Highland, Fade In and plain text. File → Title page… sets the title, credit, author and contact.
