Make a film from code: API and MCP
API keys, the REST endpoints, webhooks, and connecting another AI tool through MCP.
- Where
- API settings
- Cost
- Pro or Studio plan; the same credits as the app
Everything in this academy can also be done through MoviePro's API: plan a film, create elements, generate shots, music and speech, edit a project's timeline and render it. Every endpoint is also an MCP tool, so an AI assistant that speaks MCP can make a film with your account.
Get a key
- Settings → MoviePro API. Name the key, choose its scopes (all, or read/write per area: projects, media, elements, generations, renders), and click Generate Key.
- Copy it now: it's only shown once.
- Send it as Authorization: Bearer mpk_… to the REST API base URL shown on the same tab.
Connect an AI tool with MCP
Add the MCP Endpoint from Settings to your MCP client, with a key that has the all or mcp scope. Besides the REST operations it gets get_moviepro_guide, wait_for_generation and wait_for_render.
The film pipeline over the API
- Planning: scripts, breakdowns and shot plans.
- Elements: characters and locations with references.
- Generations: shots, stills, music, speech and sound effects.
- Timeline: atomic edits (add, move, trim, split, delete clips, titles, tracks), shown live if the project is open in the editor.
- Renders: render the project by id.
Things to know
- Requests are rate-limited per key, and each account can run 3 cloud renders at once.
- 402 INSUFFICIENT_CREDITS and 403 PLAN_REQUIRED / INSUFFICIENT_SCOPE are the errors you'll hit first.
- Webhooks are signed with the key's whsec_ secret in the MoviePro-Signature header: verify it before trusting a call.
The API reference has cURL, JavaScript and Python samples for every endpoint, and the OpenAPI spec.

Steps, labels and prices are checked against MoviePro as it ships. Prices are shown in the app before every run; if they differ from this lesson, the app is right.
