Migration

A five-minute checklist.

  1. Export everything. If you still have access to old generations through a third party, download the files now.
  2. Rewrite prompts as shot descriptions, not model incantations: size, lens, movement, duration and the action in plain language travel between models.
  3. Rebuild your references. Character sheets and location stills are what make Seedance and Kling consistent; gather five to ten per character.
  4. Test the same three shots on three models: a wide, a close-up and a motion-heavy shot. The winner is usually different per shot type.
  5. Budget by the second. Most current models bill per second of output, so a 30-second hero shot and a 4-second insert cost very different amounts.

FAQ

Sora alternative questions

Is Sora still available?

What did OpenAI replace Sora with?

OpenAI did not name a recommended replacement. Creators have moved to models such as ByteDance Seedance 2.5, Alibaba Wan 3.0, Google Veo 3.1, Kling and Runway Gen-4.5.

Why did OpenAI shut Sora down?

OpenAI gave no specific reason. Reporting points to compute costs, a shift toward world-simulation research, or the end of a reported Disney licensing arrangement, but none of these has been confirmed by OpenAI.
